Balling Out on a Budget: How to Decorate Your Home for New Year’s

5… 4… 3… 2… 1… HAPPY SAVINGS!

The clock is counting down ‘til New Year’s Eve, and if you’re hosting this year, you’ll want to reign in the new year with some cute décor. But, let’s be honest, nobody wants to spend a fortune on New Year’s decorations – their shelf life is incredibly short. While you may be able to get away with having the Christmas tree up for several months, enduring New Year’s decorations just feel lazy. Sorry, we don’t make the rules…

So, if you’re looking to decorate on a budget, we have some great tips and tricks sure to spark great enthusiasm out of your guests–even before the champagne hits!

Here are some great ways to dazzle your New Year’s guests without breaking the bank:

Find Accessories that Sparkle!

There aren’t many rules on how to decorate for New Year’s, but there is a general consensus – metallic shimmer is a must!

Head to your local Turn Style and pick out décor that sparkles. Glittery plates, glassware, utensils, candles, knick-knacks, or even shiny pillows will add a magical touch to your New Year’s setup! You can also continue this theme with some disposable decorations from a party store, such as balloons or banners. Pairing these types of decorations together will form a cohesive, celebratory look. Plus, you can’t forget a sparkly dress or sequinned jacket!

Speaking of Fun Pillows…

If you’re hosting New Year’s Eve, be courteous and plan for the end of the night. If your guests have been drinking, it’s best to provide them with a place to sleep it off. Even if they haven’t been drinking, maybe they’d prefer to stay off the roads. It’s best to plan for high occupancy and go from there.

That being said, to make your guests comfortable on an overnight stay, grab some extra pillows and blankets for them. The joke about never having enough throw pillows is not only right, but a help in times like these! At Turn Style, you can pick up pillows and blankets for less than traditional stores, then those extra pillows and blankets will encourage your beloved guests to get comfortable, stay safe, and get a little extra sleep to start the new year. Now that’s great hosting!

Make a New Year’s Resolution Jar

While your guests are still awake, try this fun idea! Take a jar and use some decorations to give it a little extra pizzazz. We recommend keeping up with the metallic theme for added New Year’s flavor.

Head to the craft supply store and pick up some glitter, paint pens, a hot glue gun, feathers, yarn, ribbon, or anything else you can imagine to make your jar look adorable. Once it’s all decorated, sit it out and have your guests fill it with their resolutions written on little notes. The jar is cute, the exercise is fun, and it’s a great way to symbolize how you’re going to better yourself for the new year. Writing down your intentions might even help you realize them!

Or Make a Rememberlutions Jar!

Think New Year’s resolutions are too cliché? We get that! So instead, try this! Like the resolution jar, you’ll need to get yourself a jar and all of the necessary crafting supplies. The goal is to not only make the jar look cute, but completely repurposed. In this case, the purpose is to fill it with little notes containing happy memories, special events, and accomplishments that occurred over the last year. Think ‘a year in review’.

All of your guests can fill it out, recapping the year and focusing on successes. You and your guests might find this more inspirational than the resolution jar. And, for some added fun, you can take the notes out, read them aloud, and have everybody celebrating one another. Sounds like a fun time to us!

Put Together a Magical Bar Cart

Lastly, let’s talk about one of the staples of any New Year’s party – the bar!

In all likelihood, your bar cart is going to be the one place guests keep hanging around or going back to. It’ll attract a lot of attention, so make sure it’s worthy! Now, we don’t want to sound too redundant, but keep up with the shiny, glittery, metallic theme here. New Year’s is all about the glitz and the glam, and if you’re gonna go over the top anywhere in your décor, the bar cart is the place to do it!

Fancy glasses and decanters can really add a lot of flash, especially when paired with other glamorous décor. Consider making space for a large glass vase filled with glittery ornaments. This will look elegant and celebratory while complimenting the alcohol bottles. Be on the lookout for any sort of shiny knick-knacks that could add interest to your bar cart, and maybe even a fancy bowl to hold a few snacks. Who doesn’t love snacks?

Decorating for New Year’s doesn’t have to get too extensive! Just use a couple of the tips mentioned above, and you and your guests will be ready for a great time! Oh, and pro tip: While you’re at Turn Style, find a stunning new dress for New Year’s Eve. You won’t regret it!
