The Holidays are here and Thanksgiving will be occurring before you know it!! And with so much going on in the world right now, it’s the perfect time to surround yourself with loved ones — a gentle reminder of everything you have to be thankful for.

If you’re hosting Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving this year, then congratulations! You’ve been entrusted to facilitate love, appreciation and joy (or maybe you’re just a really good cook). Either way, it can be a little overwhelming figuring out where to start.

So, how can you prepare yourself to be a great Thanksgiving host? Start with your home decor!

Here are several different things you can do to go above and beyond with your Thanksgiving decorations, creating a magical environment for you and your guests.

Wreaths

Guess what? Wreaths aren’t just for Christmas! Capitalize on beautiful fall colors and get yourself a wreath full of oranges, reds and yellows. Thanksgiving wreaths can include leaves, pinecones, acorns, hay, crabapples or cranberries, and other materials you associate with autumn and Thanksgiving. While they traditionally spruce up the doorway, making visitors feel welcome before they even step into the house, you can also lay a wreath on the table as a centerpiece display. Nestle a cold dish into the opening or place it on a similarly sized circular dish and use as a service tray for spices and sauces.

Centerpieces

Much like wreaths, your Thanksgiving centerpieces can also center around nature. Think pumpkins or gourds along with smaller accent pieces — or perhaps a beautiful bouquet of fall-colored flowers. If you have a nice decoration bowl, you can fill it with more pinecones and colorful leaves. If you really want to wow your guests, you can always go all-in with a cornucopia, filling it with leaves, nuts and fruits.

Crafts

If you’re into DIY, your decor options can really open up! With so many different ideas for Thanksgiving craft projects, you’re sure to find something you love. Consider making use of mason jars — which look great for any kind of decoration — by gathering fall leaves and using Mod Podge glue to stick them all over the outside. Once the leaves are completely sealed with the Mod Podge, place tea lights in the jars for beautiful shades of orange, red and yellow.

Other crafty Thanksgiving home decor ideas include hanging leaves on string to create pretty garlands, painting pumpkins with little turkeys or fall-themed designs, and filling glass vases with seeds or corn kernels in different fall shades.

Home Goods

For those who prefer store-bought decorations, there are plenty of festive home decorations for you. Shop for Thanksgiving-themed throw pillows and place them on couches, chairs or benches in your gathering spaces. And, to get multiple senses involved, pick up some candles with delightful fall scents, such as apple cinnamon or pumpkin spice.

You can also fill a vintage-looking little wagon with hay and gourds to spruce up a corner of your home, or perhaps find pretty lanterns that could be used as decorations around your home — or as part of the centerpiece.
